DEATHSTENCH Unveils New Track “Infernal Coil”

Around the same time as the publication of this article, the fourth blood moon in the tetrad cycle will occur. This one is being called a supermoon in the media and brings with it much suspense and tension. Many faiths view this as a dark omen, while others perceive the end of the blood moon cycle to signal the beginning of something new.  With each of the moons in this cycle, black noise duo DEATHSTENCH has released a song. The direction and approach of each song has remained unique while grasping at something just beyond the reach of the naked eye. With the debut of “Infernal Coil,” DEATHSTENCH pulls back the veil one final time to bring chaos and tumultuous rebirth. As the musicians behind this act are far more knowledgeable in matters of astrological nature, I’ll allow the words of John Paul from DEATHSTENCH to set the stage as you listen to the song.

There are no planetary conjunctions to the lunar eclipse degree during this eclipse phase, but some other major transits are happening. The asteroids Juno and Vesta, plus Black Moon Lilith, align with either the Sun or Moon, pushing even more force to this eclipse. This lunar eclipse relates to, and compliments the themes of the Solar Eclipse back on the 13th. This Harvest Moon comes under the influence of the fixed star Deneb Kaitos “The other ‘neath the dusky Monster’s tail.” This ruthless star is in the Tail of Cetus. This Leviathan represents the sea monster sent by Neptune to devour Andromeda. It is known for making big waves without thought of the consequences, of self destructive behaviors and habits that lead to emotional inhibition and restraint. The Moon is also conjunct with Vesta (Vesta is the second most massive body in our asteroid belt, surpassed only by Ceres, which is classified as a dwarf planet.) Vesta is the asteroid of focus, dedication & commitment; of physical, emotional, and mental clarity; and of self-respect. She brings attention to that which is of true importance to us and will ignite and burn away that which is not so we can become clear. Vesta is keeper of the sacred flame within  one’s self. Kind of ironic she’s in the middle of Aries (a fire sign) alongside the Moon during this eclipse. Your personal lunar experience depends on how this eclipse is configured to your chart and how you handle change in general.

Since it’s an eclipse, the sun plays a pivotal role during this celestial event as well. The Sun comes under the influence of the fixed star Zaniah (translates as Adulteress or Harlot) A star of harvests in Arabic she’s called Al Awwa, the Barker, or “the Howler”. This star is located in the left arm of “the Virgin” (Virgo). This constellation is said to represent Erigone, daughter of Icarius, who hanged herself through grief at the death of her father.

The sun pulls two along with her during this eclipse: The Black Moon (“Black Moon Lilith,” is a hypothetical point in astrology known by several names. Some argue that the Dark Moon is one thing, Black Moon another and Lilith yet another. There is an asteroid named Lilith, but it is not the same as the Black Moon. This point arises due to the Moon’s path around the ecliptic forming an axis of the perigee when the moon’s orbit is closest to the earth and the apogee when its orbit is furthest from the earth. It is an empty area, a void created, an empty focus. Moving at about 40 degrees a year, the perigee is from where the path of the Dark Moon is calculated. It takes a little under nine years for it to complete its course. Some believe there to be a planet in that empty space. A second Moon circling Earth only seen on rare dates when it is opposite the Sun or when its shadowy silhouette crosses in front of the Sun. Supposedly sighted as long ago as 1618, this body came to broader attention through the work of astrologer Sepharial in 1918. Whether an empty space or mysterious planet, this is the force talked about in astrology.) and Juno.  Juno, goddess of love, is the asteroid of covenant relationships, soul colleagues, and true lovers. In the astrological chart, Juno indicates the nature of the issues and opportunities in significant relations of all sorts: those that are of a personal nature to those of political leaders and nations of the world.

The combined effect of the star Zaniah, asteroid Juno and Black Moon Lilith with the Sun is complex to say the least. So this is one of those all-or-nothing eclipses that could shoot us sky high or cause disaster for us. Depending on how things have gone in the last 6 months, we can now see the fruit of our labor blossom from the seeds we planted six months ago. But if life has been stressful, putting pressure on those embryonic seeds, then what should be a birthing time can sadly turn into a miscarriage.

Suffice to say, a lot of thought and research have gone into the work shared here. Black Metal & Brews does not pretend to fully comprehend the power or the origin of the art and studies DEATHSTENCH offer here, yet I hope that my writing and platform here will allow this to reach its intended audience. The song “Infernal Coil” itself will be both familiar and new to listeners of black metal and noise. An ominous cacophony of static crumbles beneath its own weight to unleash a buzzing black metal assault. While the band’s approach is well established by this point, there are still surprises in store. This is indeed a birthing of sorts, yet as the song slows towards its end, it’s hard to say whether something hideous has been brought into this world or removed from it. DEATHSTENCH may be aware of what the future holds, but they’re not elaborating just yet. Only time and patience will yield the answers for those of us eager to hear more from this group. For now, raise a glass high, step outside, and listen to “Infernal Coil” at maximum volume.
